Public Defender Resigns in Shame for Vandalizing Hostage Posters

Clear Facts

  • A New York City public defender, Victoria Ruiz, has resigned after being caught on camera tearing down posters of hostages missing in the Israel-Hamas war.
  • The New York County Defender Services confirmed her resignation.
  • StopAntisemitism, the nonprofit organization that posted the video, received backlash from social media users who criticized Ruiz’s actions.

A New York County public defender, Victoria Ruiz, has resigned “effective immediately” after being caught on camera tearing down posters of hostages missing in the Israel-Hamas war.

The New York County Defender Services confirmed her resignation.

The incident came to light when a viral video, posted by StopAntisemitism, showed Ruiz tearing down the posters despite being questioned by a person in the video.

The video gained attention, and social media users criticized Ruiz for her actions.

“Some of those posters display Americans kidnapped by Hamas. If she can’t defend American kids, how can she serve as a public defender in America?” one user wrote.

Another user expressed concern about having Ruiz as their lawyer, stating, “As a former public defender, this is appalling. We defend all nationalities. If I were a Jew, I’d be terrified to have her as my lawyer. She must be fired immediately.”

The New York County Defender Services issued a statement strongly condemning Ruiz’s actions, stating, “We strongly condemned the highly insensitive action.”

StopAntisemitism’s Executive Director, Liora Rez, expressed satisfaction with Ruiz’s resignation, saying, “We are pleased to hear that Victoria Ruiz resigned from her position at New York County Defender Services. Someone who openly denigrates a vulnerable community by tearing down these posters should not be representing New York County’s most vulnerable in court.”

Clear Thoughts

The resignation of New York City public defender Victoria Ruiz is a necessary step in upholding justice and defending the rights of all Americans.

Her actions, caught on camera tearing down posters of hostages missing in the Israel-Hamas war, are deeply troubling and demonstrate a clear bias against a vulnerable community.

As a public defender, Ruiz should be committed to defending all nationalities, not engaging in divisive actions. The New York County Defender Services’ condemnation of her actions is commendable.

It is crucial that individuals entrusted with the responsibility of serving justice uphold the principles of fairness and impartiality.

Considering the rules espoused by her employer, that sort of behavior should also require a suspension of her state bar membership, at a minimum.

Agreed the New York DAs office was probably afraid that they would have people suing, and they have to go back and retry any of the cases that she was on. That was their only motive.

Good! It only took a day or two to get rid of her. Keep up the good work. Ruiz is despicable.

There is NO PLACE in any position of authority for this gutter trash! These courts and DAs absolutely need to be audited! We can’t bring back insane asylums fast enough. People like this, the criminals, and politicians like Tlaib and Omar MUST be made examples!
