Biden calls DeSantis ‘Trump incarnate’ while campaigning in Florida

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • President Joe Biden on Tuesday warned Floridians that incumbent Gov. Ron DeSantis is a “Donald Trump incarnate” days before the November 8 midterm elections.
  • Biden was in Florida to campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist and Rep. Val Demings.
  • DeSantis is a potential 2024 presidential candidate who is a top alternative to Trump among Republican voters.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday called Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis “Donald Trump incarnate” while campaigning for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Charlie Crist.

“Charlie is running against Donald Trump incarnate. This guy doesn’t fit any of the categories I talked about. The way he deals, the way he denies,” Biden said during Crist’s fundraiser in Golden Beach, Fla.

The president then praised Crist for his “integrity and intelligence” and repeatedly mentioned Florida’s huge impact on the country’s midterm elections on Nov. 8.

“The rest of the world is looking at us, Charlie. They’re looking at us,” Biden said. “It is really important that a state the size of Florida … comes down on the right side of history.”

Biden went to the Sunshine State on Tuesday to warn Floridians that Republicans would attempt to take away Social Security and Medicare benefits and drive up the cost of living if Democrats do not retain control of Congress. The president was also attending fundraisers for Crist and Senate candidate Rep. Val Demings, who is challenging GOP Sen. Marco Rubio.

Biden’s comments were the sharpest yet against the Florida governor. The two have been clashing for months over DeSantis’ outlawing mask mandates in schools, passing a bill to restrict discussion of sexual orientation in schools, and sending migrants to blue states via buses private planes.

Last month, Biden visited Florida to assess damage from Hurricane Ian. He appeared alongside DeSantis and praised the Republican governor for his response to the calamity.

DeSantis is expected to beat the Democratic candidate next week, with multiple polls showing him with a sizeable lead over Crist, who served as the state’s governor from 2007 to 2011 as a Republican.

DeSantis is a potential presidential candidate in 2024. He consistently polls as a top alternative to former President Donald Trump among Republican voters. Many strategists believe DeSantis could draw Trump’s supporters in a primary without carrying the baggage of multiple investigations.

Last month, an ABC News-Ipsos poll found that 72 percent of registered GOP voters believe that DeSantis should have a great or good deal of influence in the future direction of the party, while 64 percent of respondents said the same of Trump.

“TRUMP INCARNATE” is a much more appealing idea for America than all the wacky notions and counterproductive actions this incompetent Quid Pro Joe administration has accursed us with over the past two years.

These Dem candidates should seriously question whether having Joe on the campaign trail is beneficial. Personally I’d want to keep him away!
