WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • The Senate on Thursday passed a landmark gun safety bill, in a 65-33 vote.
  • Fifteen GOP senators joined all Democrats in passing the most significant federal gun legislation in three decades.
  • The gun safety package is now headed to the House, where it is expected to pass.

The Senate passed the bipartisan gun safety bill on Thursday night by a vote of 65-33, with 15 Republican senators joining all the Democrats.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnel supported the final passage.

Aside from McConnell, the other Republicans who voted in favor of the measure were Sens. John Cornyn, Richard Burr, Roy Blunt, Shelley Moore Capito, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Joni Ernst, Lindsey Graham, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman, Mitt Romney, Thom Tillis, Pat Toomey and Todd Young.

The gun safety bill is the biggest federal gun reform in nearly three decades.

In a statement following the bill’s passage, President Joe Biden said, “Tonight, after 28 years of inaction, bipartisan members of Congress came together to heed the call of families across the country and passed legislation to address the scourge of gun violence in our communities.”

He continued: “Families in Uvalde and Buffalo — and too many tragic shootings before — have demanded action. And tonight, we acted.”

The president said that the bipartisan bill “will help protect Americans” as “kids in schools and communities will be safer because of it.”

Biden urged the House of Representatives to immediately vote on the package so he can sign it.

The measure must pass the House before it can be signed into law. It is expected to pass the House as early as Friday.

On Wednesday, House Republicans had urged members to vote against the gun safety package.

Major aspects of the bill include expanded federal background checks for buyers under the age of 21, financial incentives for states to pass “red flag” laws and other intervention programs, and closing the so-called “boyfriend loophole.”

The Congressional Budget Office announced on Wednesday that the package comes with a $13.2 billion price tag. The bill will be fully paid for by once again delaying a Trump-era ban on prescription drug rebates in Medicare, the office said.

Both Schumer and McConnell supported the legislation. It was brought about by a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the weeks following the deadly shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

“This bipartisan gun-safety legislation is progress and will save lives,” Schumer said earlier this week. “While it is not everything we want, this legislation is urgently needed.”

      Blueprint for destroying a society
      Washington Times | Aug 20, 2018 | Commentary | 0
If I wanted to destroy an enemy society, and had a long-term focus, wanted to do it stealthily, and effectively, to make the society destroy itself and the ability to defend itself, I would do the following:
      1. I would destroy the religious ideals that built the country and held it together, allowing it to thrive and be exceptional. In short, I would destroy Christianity in the West.
      2. I would destroy the family, the fabric of society. I would tear apart the nuclear family, that produced stable children, future contributors to the nation’s wealth and power. I would promote a “gay agenda,” one that targeted fertility and the subsequent lowering of the birth rate. I would make children not know what gender they are; I would confuse them. I would destroy the centuries-old family unit that produced generations of Americans that became the most powerful nation on earth. A society that does not reproduce is a dying society.
      3. I would promote the concept “toxic masculinity” and extremist feminism. What better way to make the society less masculine, less able to field a strong military?I would push to have as many women as possible in the armed forces. I would push to put women in frontline infantry units. I would make the military conduct societal experiments rather than focus on fielding the strongest armed forces possible — the most lethal, the most dangerous. I would make officers-in-training wear high heels to feel what is was like to be a woman. In short, I would feminize the male population, making it less effective in battle.
      4. I would destroy the education system. I would plant Marxist professors throughout the university system, teaching new generations nothing about American history, but filling their heads full of communist propaganda. They would know nothing of Washington, Lincoln, or Jefferson, but of Malcolm X and Lenin.
      5. I would divide the races. What better way, what better method of “dividing and conquering,” than to foster a race war, filling minorities’ heads full of lies of police brutality, and developing a culture of hate towards law enforcement?
      6. I would corrupt the federal government. I would fill the intelligence and security services with traitors to the nation’s founding. When any political figure arose which threatened my diabolical agenda, I would use these corrupt agencies to target and frame any rising star who loved America, even if he was a duly-elected president of the United States.
      7. I would take away the population’s means to defend itself – meaning, I would take away their guns. The fear of an armed population would stop any invasion. I would get rid of this problem.
      8. I would destroy self-reliance and ingenuity by making over half of the population dependent on the government, unable to take care of themselves.
      9. I would use big-tech to completely remove any viewpoints or ideas that were associated with the “old America.” I would ban them from the internet. Heck, I’d take over the internet. I would work with other tyrannical powers to develop internet censorship to eventually prevent any opposing views to be heard by anyone.
      10. I would corrupt the nation’s leadership with money, finding those who would sell out the country for pieces of silver. I’d make sure they were strategically placed in powerful positions. I’d shell out money throughout the legislature to make sure no laws were passed that opposed my agenda.
      11. I would promote the disrespect of the nation’s symbols. I would have people kneel during the national anthem, burn the flag, tear down statues of the nation’s history. I would make people hate the very fabric of the nation that gave them such wealth and power.
      12. I would find a straw man, a country who is also a malicious adversary to America, though much less powerful, and I would focus all the negative energy and recriminations towards this straw man country. In this manner, the targeted nation would be ignorant of my true intentions.
The regime that would promote all of this change in the targeted country would be the largest communist regime in the world. It would have a 100-year plan to destroy its enemies and become the dominant force on the planet. It would have millions of its own citizens in concentration camps. It would force abortions on women and the sterilization of those it didn’t want to reproduce within its own borders. Many of its workers would live as slaves, with a life of no meaning. Its factories would have suicide nets around the roofs to prevent these workers from killing themselves in despair. This nation would kill tens of thousands of its own citizens who dared stand up for a future of freedom.
Everything I have written above is happening right now in front of your eyes.
      I’ll give you a hint – it’s not Russia.

Knee jerk reaction. You haven’t addressed the real problem and never have. Disarm the citizens and let the criminal element continue to do what they do. You see they don’t have the red tape/red flag problem and none of their firearms are registered

Red – true enough BUT why should those of us who DO do our due diligence effectively be punished by the actions of the morons, both the voters AND the idjits they elect. Seems to me that we are being found guilty of things we didn’t do.

These communist assholes in Washington think they are making people think that they are doing something good for the people with this bullshit law, and the sheep will follow. WAKE THE HELL UP!!!! Washington senators and congressmen and women don’t give two shits about the American people if they actually did they would go after the true root of the problem, the weapon carrying and using the tool whatever it my be (The criminal). All this is is a step in their agenda, this is one step close to taking away from the law abiding citizens. It’s a hard heart that kills not the tool being used, but the bleeding hearts in Washington don’t want to punish the criminal. They wind up taking are guns and that leaves us defenseless against the person or persons trying to do harm to your family, ourselves the government and our enemies. As far the criminals that carry out these acts there is a simple solution to that problem bring back public executions by draw and quartering. Back in history when this punishment was carried out violent crimes were nearly unheard of. Washington is so eager to take away guns but not do anything to the criminals. Remember this Americans this about control, it has nothing to do with stopping violence. The American people have forgotten that We the People our the government and it needs to change now before its to late, its written in our constitution that we not only have a right but a duty to do something about it if we see something wrong going on this country has been going wrong for along time and something needs to be done we’re already on the brink of becoming a 3rd world nation and when our dollar crashes we will be efficiently a 3rd world country. I love fought and bled for my country its still the greatest nation in the world as long as we all stand and say enough is enough. We’re all in this shithole together it’s beyond the time to stick together and fight the tyrannical government that is only there to get rich while the rest of us scratch a living to pay our bills.

Perhaps the Republicans who oppose abortion might introduce some loopholes there if the woman shoots herself in the womb with a GUN!!!!! In many minds, the value of human life is a lower value than a person’s 2ndAmendmet rights.

My opinion probably won’t get much support but IMHO the new law will likely have little to no effect on the vast majority of us since we don’t fit into any of the categories contained in it. Remember how ‘effective’ (not) the ’94 AWB ban was – IIRC there were something like FOURTEEN successful prosecutions during the entire life of it.
What this latest set of infringements does do is make it far too easy for further laws when it has no significant effects. The cry will come (already has for that matter) that even more laws are needed as these just didn’t go far enough. slow joe and his anti gun cronies are ALREADY saying this is just the first step. With the surrender of those rinos it will be that much easier to dupe them into ‘doing something’ in the future.

Once the government gets their creepy foot in the door they won’t stop. This weapons thing will make no difference in crime,if the criminals want weapons they will get weapons, all that this sham will do is create a black market for criminals that will make and sell weapons.Maybe someone should look at all of the stress that sloppy joey and his herd are putting on AMERICAN citizens and that does mean their screwed up border boondoggle, inflation and their totally screwed up domestic petroleum agenda.
