Series of assaults on Trump at DNC Night 3

  • President Donald Trump received a series of attacks from the biggest names in Democratic politics on the third night of the virtual Democratic National Convention.
  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Former President Barack Obama and Vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris headlined the event.
  • Harris  said Trump’s “failure of leadership had cost lives and livelihoods.”

Similar to Nights 1 and 2 of the virtual Democratic National Convention, President Trump received sustained attacks from the biggest Democratic politicians on night 3.

Democrats enlisted artists, including Billie Eilish, to attract younger voters and tell them about the dangers of voting for Trump.

Before launching into a new song, Eilish said: “You don’t need me to tell you things are a mess. Donald Trump is destroying our country and everything we care about.”

Harris made history

Sen. Kamala Harris made history when she accepted the nomination as the Democratic party’s vice-presidential candidate. She’s the first Black American woman to appear on a major party ticket and also the first Indian-American to do so.

Harris said Trump’s “failure of leadership had cost lives and livelihoods.”

Pelosi: Trump disrespects women

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said “America marks the centennial of women finally winning the right to vote, we do so with 105 women in the House of Representatives. Proudly, 90 are Democrats.”

Pelosi said continued by saying she’s experienced firsthand Trump’s “disrespect for facts, for working families and for women.”

Warren: Trump failed his “biggest test”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Trump’s “ignorance and incompetence have always been a danger to our country,” and arguing he failed his “biggest test” of COVID-19 “miserably.”

“Today, America has the most COVID deaths in the world and an economic collapse — and both crises are falling hardest on Black and Brown families,” Warren added.

Hillary Clinton: “America needs a better president”

“Remember in 2016 when Trump asked: “What do you have to lose?” Well, now we know: our health, our jobs, even our lives. Our leadership in the world and, yes, our post office,” Clinton said.

The former secretary of state wished “Donald Trump had been a better president because “America needs a president who shows… compassion, determination, and leadership in the White House.”

Barack Obama: Trump “… treating the presidency as anything but one more reality show”

The most sobering moment of night 3 was former President Obama’s blistering address, in which he accused Trump of being a conspiracy theorist who has stirred hate and degraded the country’s standing in the world.

“Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t and the consequences of that failure are severe,” Obama said. “170,000 Americans dead. Millions of jobs gone while those at the top take in more than ever. Our worst impulses unleashed, our proud reputation around the world badly diminished, and our democratic institutions threatened like never before.”

Obama’s grave tone came in contrast to his breezy 2016 convention speech, which was broken up by laughs and smiles.
