WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former President Donald Trump easily won the Conservative Political Action Conference’s (CPAC) highly anticipated presidential straw poll.
  • Trump got 59 percent of the votes while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis got 28%, coming in second.
  • Former Vice President Mike Pence only got 1 percent of the votes.

Former President Donald Trump overwhelmingly topped the Conservative Political Action Conference’s (CPAC) highly anticipated presidential straw poll conducted in Orlando, Florida.

Trump garnered 59 percent of the votes while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in second with 28 percent support. DeSantis is the only other prospective candidate to secure double-digit support.

Trump delivered the keynote address at CPAC which saw more than 2,500 attendees on Saturday night.

The poll, however, shows that Trump’s support is slipping, while DeSantis gained ground.

At CPAC in July 2021, the former president garnered 70 percent of the votes, with DeSantis coming in second with 21 percent.

It’s clear from the recent informal survey that Trump and DeSantis are the clear favorites for the nomination in 2024. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is the next closest candidate, coming in third with 2 percent support.

No other Republican got more than 1 percent.

Among the 1 percenters were Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky, Tim Scott of South Carolina and Ted Cruz of Texas, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin. Former Vice President Mike Pence also got 1 percent.

Asked who they believe the 2024 Democratic nominee will be, 22 percent of respondents selected Hillary Clinton, while 17 percent said former first lady Michelle Obama. Only 14 percent believe that President Joe Biden will be the Democratic presidential nominee in two years.

Straw polls don’t mean much. 50% of the GOP want Trump as POTUS in 2024. The other 50% want another Republican in the W/H. Any intelligent Republican besides Trump can carry on where the former President left off. It doesn’t take Trump to finish the Border Fence, deport illegals, or start up the cancelled Keystone XL Pipeline. Trump’s own big mouth is going to do him in. Trump ha a penchant for dictators. So voters shouldn’t be blinded that Trump is a one size fit’s all. Trump praising Putin as a genius over the invasion Ukraine is a little hard to swallow for a lot of voters. Compared to Lying Corrupt Quid Pro KING Joe, (Corrupt Quid Pro is a dictator in his own right), Putin is a genius, Corrupt Quid Pro is an a—–e. Trump is no genius, Trump is just Trump. As they saying goes, Between Corrupt Quid Pro and Trump, Trump is the least evil of the two. At least Trump isn’t trying to destroy America. Former Ambassador to the UN Bolton was n Newsmax last night. They tried to put Words in Bolton’s mouth. Bolton hit the nail on the head . Neither one of Bolton or Trump belong in the W/H. during Trump’s tenure in the W/H Trump withheld millions of dollars in military aid to the Ukraine, unless the president of the Ukraine agreed to investigate Biden. Trump is just as morally Corrupt as Corrupt Quid Pro. Trump was over ridden by the Congress, Ukraine was given the aid. Trump gets a primary challenge for the GOP top spot, I will vote for his opponent . If the opponent loses to Trump, then I will vote for Trump. I have had enough of the destructive antics of the liberal commie Democrats, and the antics of Trump. Get off of the election was stolen. It’s over and done with. It’s in the past. Look forward to 2024 and concentrate on bringing back America to the #1 spot on the world stage. As for the B.S. statement, Putin would have never invaded Ukraine, if Trump were president, no one knows that, that’s an assumption. Putin isn’t losing any sleep over Trump either.
