Wall Street Journal slams Trump over ‘death wish’ remark against McConnell [Video]

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • The Wall Street Journal tore former President Trump on Sunday in its editorial.
  • The former president is facing backlash after saying Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has a “death wish.”
  • Trump also made a racist comment about his former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, McConnell’s wife.

The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board criticized former President Donald Trump on Sunday over his use of the term “death wish” in an attack against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“We live in a polarized political age when rabid partisans don’t need provocation to resort to violence,” the WSJ board wrote. “This makes Donald Trump’s latest verbal assault against Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell all the more reckless.”

The WSJ board added that the ‘death wish’ rhetoric is “ugly” even by the former president’s standards and “deserves to be condemned.”

On Friday, Trump also attacked McConnell’s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, with racist statements calling her “China loving” and “Coco Chow.”

“He has a DEATH WISH,” Trump wrote of McConnell. “Must immediately seek help and advise from his China loving wife, Coco Chow!”

Trump and McConnell’s relationship has not been solid since the former president was in the White House. The recent attack came after McConnell voted for a continuing resolution that funded the government through mid-December.

“Mr. Trump’s apologists claim he merely meant Mr. McConnell has a political death wish, but that isn’t what he wrote,” The WSJ editors wrote. “It’s all too easy to imagine some fanatic taking Mr. Trump seriously and literally, and attempting to kill Mr. McConnell. Many supporters took Mr. Trump’s rhetoric about former Vice President Mike Pence all too seriously on Jan. 6.”

The editorial also references Sen. Susan Collins who told The New York Times that she wouldn’t be surprised if a lawmaker gets killed amid a heightened threat environment.

Many lawmakers, including Collins, have faced an inundation of threats that have led to increased security funding and changes in behavior for some lawmakers.

“What started with abusive phone calls is now translating into active threats of violence and real violence,” Collins told the newspaper.

The Journal’s editors wrote that the former president “could be working and spending money to elect a GOP Congress, or to help his home state of Florida recover from Hurricane Ian.”

“Instead he’s attacking Mr. McConnell and his wife as part of a personal political vendetta, and putting every Republican candidate on the spot to respond to questions about the Trump rant,” they added. “Mr. Trump always puts himself first, and with this rhetoric he may put others at genuine risk of harm.”

Context. The wall street journalist who came up with this idea has taken ” read into it” to a whole new level of ignorance. I am not as educated or privey to a lot but I can tell that what was said and what someone “believes” are two different critters. one is an American and the other is a bidum suck-up. As far as the racist crap……like I said, they read into it to make up a story to sell their rag.

roy, if you made it through the sixth grade between the 30’s and the 80″s you have a better education than those who have come out of one of our colleges in the past 20-30 years.

Excellent post sir. The WSJ went left decades ago. Its about as honest as Romney or McCain. I don’t trust any of the corporate media for anything other than to promote a massive central government and the interests of the elites.

And Joe Biden calling Maga Republicans a threat to democracy does not deserve backlash. Turtle Mitch will not last long in a conservative congress. His “death wish” per se.

What a pos report. Everyone smart enough to get in out of the rain, knew Trump was talking about political suicide. McConnell does not approve of the Americia First Movement. Whereas, McConnell usually votes in favor of China as does Biden. (go back and look at their voting records). That’s because McConnell’s wife’s family owns a shipping business in China. As I’m sure you are aware. But no one owns any private business in China without the government of China being a part owner. Do you see a conflict of interest yet, ole wise reporter? McConnell would have never won re-election without Trump, but look how McConnell pays him back. so yes McConnell is done no matter how you phrase it.

So where is WSJ condemnations against Biden’s recent rants aimed at destroying a large portion on the American population by calling to arms the fight against all who disagree with him (ie; his recent Adolf type speech) which has resulted in violence and one of his minions intentionally killing an 18 year old who he took as a MAGA Republican. WSJ try being honest and non biased if you know how

The WSJ is just another left wing fake info rag that will turn against truth as long as they think it gets to the majority of people and it will get them some plus points. Too bad WSJ it just puts you in line with all the other fake news papers and soon you will be at the top of junk news.

This is absolutely ludicrous, reproachable, reprehensible, dumb and dumber comments from the Liberal Leftist wing nuts. There is no death wish imposed upon Senator McConnell. The Democratic Socialist, Marxist, Communist Regime is insane and totally desperate in their continually overreach, falsehood, and wicked evil lies. This truly demonstrates the vile, wicked, evil, debase, hatred, this failed Regime of Liberal Leftists have for President Donald J. Trump. REALLY? How do these people sleep at night? I will answer that question, they can’t sleep at night. Hear the WORD of the LORD, “These six things doth the LORD hate; yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: A PROUD LOOK, a LYING TONGUE, and HANDS that SHED INNOCENT BLOOD, An HEART THAT DEVISETH WICKED IMAGINATION, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A FALSE WITNESS that SPEAKETH LIES, and he that SOWETH DISCORD among the brethren.” Job 6:16-19 and again, The LORD says, “Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of the evil one. AVOID IT, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. For they SLEEP NOT, except they have done mischief, and their SLEEP is taken away, UNLESS THEY CAUSE SOME TO FALL. For they eat the BREAD of WICKEDNESS, and DRINK the WINE of VIOLENCE. Proverbs 4: 14-17 Surely American People have great concerns as to the betrayal that is being brought to the table by Senator Mitch McConnell, we know that Senator McConnell is a RINO Republican. He is about the “back room deals” and we have seen the ways he has back stabbed “We the People” over and over again when he should be working with us, for us, and not against us. So the truth of it is Senator McConnell is sabotaging the candidates running for office in the Republican Party. WHY? Senator McConnell is well over due to retire and allow someone else to restore the integrity of the Republican Party. We need to clean house in Washington, D.C. and elect new officials for it is imperative to the well being and best interests of this nation, and for generations to come.
