Trump Border Success Faces New Interior Challenge

Published

Clear Facts

  • Illegal migration has sharply declined since President Trump returned to office, with nearly all illegal crossers now detained and not released.
  • The Department of Homeland Security reports over 500,000 deportations since January 2025, with hopes to surpass 600,000 by the end of the year.
  • The majority of illegal immigrants arrested by ICE had criminal charges or convictions, while left-wing politicians and activists aim to undermine enforcement efforts.

The Trump administration’s strong border actions have ended routine “catch-and-release” policies, stopping the influx of illegal immigrants at the southern border.

Those entering illegally now face immediate detention instead of being released, which contrasts with previous policies that overloaded the immigration system.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, more than half a million illegal aliens have been deported since Trump took office, and the agency expects to top 600,000 by year’s end.

Researchers at the Center for Immigration Studies estimate over a million additional illegal aliens have left the country voluntarily since January 2025.

ICE has arrested approximately 485,000 illegal aliens during this period, 70% of whom were charged with or convicted of crimes in addition to being in the U.S. illegally.

Most of these individuals lived freely in American communities prior to arrest, many unmonitored as their cases proceeded slowly through the courts.

The Trump administration’s results demonstrate that illegal migration is not inevitable, as left-wing politicians once claimed, and have exposed the failure of previous enforcement efforts.

The left now uses media campaigns and activist support to portray enforcement as unfair, while federal agents are simply upholding the law and protecting public safety.

“They bandy the word ‘Nazi’ about as only those completely ignorant of European history can.”

Left-wing activists routinely depict criminal illegal aliens as victims or heroes, ignoring evidence of wrongdoing.

Some Democrats, including New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York mayor Zohran Mamdani, advocate closing prisons and ending detention, supporting a radical overhaul of the justice and immigration systems.

Many in this movement believe in an international right to migrate and want to abolish immigration detention entirely.

“As I write in ‘The Ten Woke Commandments (You Must Not Obey),’ the Western world is in the midst of an epic struggle between the global left, who want open borders and international government, and conservatives who understand that strong nation-states are the essential protectors of citizens and the building blocks of a secure, prosperous world.”

This debate will intensify, especially in “sanctuary” cities that refuse to cooperate with ICE, making interior enforcement more difficult for federal agents.

If Trump continues to support law enforcement and resists political pressure, Americans will see the return of true rule of law nationwide.

However, if left-wing “abolitionists,” aided by activists and judges, obstruct enforcement, federal law could lose its power, leading to a constitutional crisis.
