Trump Weighs Removing Ambassador After Allegations Surface

Clear Facts
- President Trump stated he is “looking at” firing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and confirmed, “We’re not happy.”
- Reports allege Guilfoyle sought $100,000 from a Trump donor before her confirmation hearing and promoted the interests of a Greek construction and energy company.
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance both expressed strong disapproval of any effort to sell access to administration officials.
President Donald Trump signaled Monday that Kimberly Guilfoyle’s future in Athens is under review. He spoke briefly to reporters before departing for an Ohio campaign rally.
“Well, we’re looking at it,” Trump said. “Yeah, we’re not happy.”
“You guys walk around thinking that because some source told you something, and you reported it, it’s the gospel,” Rubio told reporters at the foot of his plane.
“It’s not the gospel. It’s not the gospel for me. That’s not the way we do things.”
Guilfoyle’s attorneys released a statement Sunday denying any wrongdoing and insisting the $100,000 payment was for pre-nomination speaking engagements. They said she “sought, obtained and followed State Department guidance” on travel.
“Ambassador Guilfoyle has served, and will continue to serve, with integrity, honor and distinction,” the attorneys said.
Top Democrats on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Senate Foreign Relations Committee and House Oversight Committee have called for investigations.
