Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed regret over funding reductions for violence prevention grants during the unrest and National Guard deployment linked to anti-ICE protests. She voiced concerns about the normalization of federal troops in American cities following President Trump’s decision to send the National Guard into Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Bass noted that the National Guard was not needed in Los Angeles, despite widespread looting and vandalism downtown. She criticized the deployment as unnecessary, saying military presence only resulted in troops standing outside a building.

  • Bass opposed cuts to violence prevention grants amid unrest and federal troop deployment in Los Angeles.
  • President Trump deployed the National Guard in response to riots and increased ICE raids in June.
  • LAPD reported an increase in officer-involved shootings in 2025 compared to the previous year.

“Well, basically, I feel like both of our cities, and we can add in Washington, D.C. right now, are all being test grounds,” Bass said.

She added, “I feel like the ultimate goal here is to normalize this overreach, where the National Guard was never needed here in Los Angeles. There were thousands of troops, and the only thing they did was stood outside a building.”

President Trump discussed the possibility of deploying the National Guard to other cities, including Chicago, following similar unrest. Democratic leaders in Illinois and Chicago have opposed such actions, citing recent declines in crime statistics.

Official data show homicide rates in Chicago have dropped 25% over the last year, though overall violence remains elevated compared to pre-pandemic years. Los Angeles has seen a reduction in general crime but experienced an uptick in officer-involved shootings according to local law enforcement reports.

I’ve been trying out this straightforward online project, and it’s been averaging around $95 a day for me — about $6700 a week. It only takes a couple of hours on my laptop, nothing complicated. I put the steps I use Just Tab On MY Name
