  • Courtney P. Williams, 40, a former Army veteran with Top Secret clearance, was arrested for allegedly leaking classified military tactics to a journalist.
  • The FBI alleges Williams shared sensitive operational details known as TTPs which were later published in a book and an article regarding elite military units.
  • Authorities state the leak included information labeled SECRET and NOFORN, presenting a significant risk to national security and American personnel.

Federal prosecutors charged Williams after investigating extensive communications between her and a reporter from 2022 to 2025.

Evidence includes a thumb drive and files on her computer labeled for the reporter containing sensitive materials.

The Department of Justice emphasized that clearance holders have a solemn duty to protect the nation.

Violating this trust leads to swift accountability from the National Security Division to safeguard American lives.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the bureau will not tolerate those who betray the country.

“This FBI will not tolerate those who seek to betray our country and put Americans in harm’s way.”

The journalist involved described Williams as a whistleblower, claiming the prosecution is retaliation for her reporting on internal military culture.

However, investigators found Williams expressed private fears about the extent of the classified data shared.

Williams reportedly sent a text to her mother admitting she could be arrested for disclosing classified information around the time of the publication.

Records show she had signed multiple non-disclosure agreements while serving in the Special Military Unit.

Reid Davis, the FBI Special Agent in Charge, labeled the disclosure as reckless and self-serving.

He noted that divulging information to the media damages the nation’s security and puts operators at risk.

“The tradecraft, tactics, and techniques used by the U.S. military unit in this case are classified and should be shared only with those with proper clearances and a need to know in order to protect American lives and safeguard classified National Defense information.”
