“I do not believe President Trump would knowingly depict himself as Jesus Christ — that would certainly be inappropriate,” Graham wrote.
Graham dismissed the controversy as an attempt by critics to spin a patriotic illustration into something blasphemous.
He pointed out the image featured military aircraft, soldiers, and eagles instead of any traditional religious iconography.
“There were no spiritual references — no halo, there were no crosses, no angels,” Graham wrote.
“It was a flag, soldiers, a nurse, fighter planes, eagles.”
The Reverend also commented on a separate image showing Jesus guiding the former president.
He said every leader needs divine guidance and praised Trump’s record on protecting religious freedom for Americans.
“I think this is a lot to do about nothing,” Graham said.
Trump addressed the backlash directly and blamed media outlets for creating a false narrative around the visual.
He maintained the intention was to symbolize his desire to fix the nation’s problems through healing.
“I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor,” Trump said.
“Only the fake news could come up with that one.”
