Jan 6 committee: Trump engaged in ‘criminal conspiracy’ to defraud the US
- The House panel investigating Jan. 6 said that former President Donald Trump and members of his campaign “engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States.”

Former President Donald Trump and his campaign staff were reportedly part of a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results, the House panel investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack claimed.
According to a new legal brief filed on Wednesday, the Select Committee “has a good-faith basis for concluding that the President and members of his Campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States.”
The legal brief mainly focuses on arguing for a court review of several documents from Trump-allied lawyer John Eastman, who had previously written that then-Vice President Mike Pence could overturn the election.
The panel argued that the documents “may reveal” that Trump and his campaign staff “engaged in common law fraud in connection with their efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.”
The panel’s chair and vice-chair, Reps. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) declared, “The facts we’ve gathered strongly suggest that Dr. Eastman’s emails may show that he helped Donald Trump advance a corrupt scheme to obstruct the counting of electoral college ballots and a conspiracy to impede the transfer of power.”
The panel accused Trump and his allies of engaging in a conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of an official proceeding, and common law fraud. They have not yet been charged with any crime.
They argued that Trump and Eastman sought to have Pence reject electors or delay the counting of electoral votes to manipulate results. Pence did not do anything of the sort.
Trump repeated several of his false election claims on Thursday and slammed the panel’s statement.
Trump declared, “The actual conspiracy to defraud the United States was the Democrats rigging the Election, and the Fake News Media and the Unselect Committee covering it up.”
He said that the committee is only trying to prevent him from running again for the presidency.
Election experts and Trump’s own former attorney general have repeatedly said that there is no proof of widespread voter fraud in the country.
The House panel has been investigating the attack on Jan. 6, 2021. A pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol as Congress was counting the electoral votes, which affirmed President Joe Biden’s election victory.
They conducted interviews with over 500 witnesses.
Eastman invoked attorney-client privilege and his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination when the panel issued a subpoena for several documents.
Eastman’s attorneys argued that he has a responsibility to protect client confidences, but the committee responded by “accusing him of criminal activity.”
The panel urged the court to reject Eastman’s claims of attorney-client privilege, citing an exception for when a client is involved in criminal activities.

After all the fictitious allegations against Trump regarding Russia, the impeachment proceedings against him( that were false), the numerous election fraud issues that are now being proven to be true . . . .
