Lyons explained that his decision to step down stems from a desire to prioritize his family obligations.

He said his sons are at an important stage in their lives and need more of his presence.

The departing director expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve within the Trump administration.

He previously served as a member of the U.S. Air Force special forces and dedicated two decades of his career to ICE.
