Ilhan Omar’s Alleged Immigration Scam Deepens as Ex-Husband Pursues Queer Studies Doctorate

Democrats and media outlets have dismissed concerns about Omar’s marriage for years. New details about Ahmed Elmi’s academic career show he is no longer hiding.

Elmi previously worked at Duke University and now studies at the University of Bristol in England. His doctoral thesis is titled “Bravery amidst Brutality: A Queer Resistance to Violence and Criminalisation in Contemporary Kenya.”

“As a gay man of the East African diaspora, my fieldwork was never neutral,” Elmi wrote in a 2026 paper. He described facing homophobia from African police during research in Kenya.

His writing employs the language of woke academia. Terms like “epistemic privilege” and “positionality” appear throughout his work.

Elmi’s papers document violence against homosexuals in Kenya. He also complains about the emotional strain of conducting research among conservative communities.

“There were periods, sometimes lasting days or weeks, when I questioned whether to continue,” he wrote. The papers focus on microaggressions and the supposed trauma of fieldwork.

Ilhan Omar has never offered a clear explanation for the marriage. On the marriage application, her surname was crossed out twice between Omar and Elmi.

Ahmed Hirsi, the father of Omar’s children, reportedly objected to Elmi’s presence near the family. Hirsi reportedly found Elmi’s behavior incompatible with raising children.

Documents suggest Omar entered the United States under the name Elmi. Her father reportedly claimed to be an educator rather than a military officer in Somalia’s Siad Barre regime.

Joe Radinovich, a Minneapolis Democratic operative, recently stated that the allegations about Omar’s marriage are “almost certainly true.”
