Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr could not resist commenting on Tuesday’s midterm results. Reporters were already packing up when Kerr stopped them to complain about the lack of political questions.
“I’m disappointed, because I was looking forward to that $5,000 check that we were all gonna get,” Kerr said, taking a direct shot at President Trump.
“I already spent it, in fact. And I was so excited and sure about it that I spent it already. So now I’m gonna have to figure something out.”
“Republicans had just gotten shellacked at the ballot box, and Kerr was dying to talk about it.”
Kerr has long positioned himself as a vocal supporter of Democratic candidates. He endorsed Kamala Harris, appeared at the Democratic National Convention, and used Stephen Curry’s signature gesture to mock President Trump.
“Even Warriors brass and league figures had grown visibly exhausted by the routine, with team owner Joe Lacob publicly conceding Kerr ‘sometimes goes a little far’ with his political diatribes.”
When confronted about his past criticism of China and his remarks on immigration, Kerr admitted he was wrong. He acknowledged that his silence on Hong Kong was motivated by protecting NBA business interests.
“You’re right, I definitely misspoke, and I knew that ICE was arresting some criminals,” Kerr admitted. “I misspoke, and I apologize for the misinformation…”
Once pressed on the facts, Kerr quickly shifted the conversation back to basketball. Yet when the media avoided politics, he inserted himself into the discussion anyway.
