Kristi Noem Pushes Bold Travel Ban Plan
Clear Facts
- Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem urged a full travel ban on certain countries, following a meeting with President Donald Trump.
- Noem’s call comes after asylum was paused for 19 countries following a fatal shooting involving an Afghan national in Washington, D.C.
- Noem did not specify which countries would be included in her proposed ban.
Kristi Noem met with President Trump and advocated for a comprehensive travel ban on countries she described as contributors of dangerous and unproductive individuals to America.
“Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom—not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS,” Noem posted on X.
“WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”
The recommendation follows President Trump pausing asylum claims from 19 countries categorized as “of Identified Concern” after an Afghan national was charged with killing a National Guardsman.
Law enforcement reports Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who previously worked with U.S. forces, shot two National Guardsmen last week in the capital.
Lakanwal entered the U.S. following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and was granted asylum under the Trump administration earlier this year.
Noem did not confirm if Lakanwal had been thoroughly vetted before receiving asylum, saying on NBC’s “Meet The Press” that “vetting is happening when they come into the country, and that was completely abandoned under Joe Biden’s administration.”
President Trump announced there would be no time limit for pausing asylum claims, stating, “we have enough problems. We don’t want those people.”
