WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden called President Donald Trump a “liar” and “clown” during their first presidential debate on Tuesday night.
  • Trump also had disagreements with moderator Chris Wallace during the debate.
  • The discussion about health care was just one of the many heated arguments the presidential candidates had within the first half an hour of the debate.

In their first presidential debate on Tuesday night, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden described President Donald Trump as a “liar” and a “clown” during a discussion about healthcare.

“The fact is everything he’s saying so far is a lie. I’m not here to call out his lies. Everyone knows he’s a liar,” Biden told moderator Chris Wallace.

The former vice president was about to provide his stance regarding his health care plan when Trump intercepted. Wallace then asked the president to let Biden take his time.

Biden then said: “He doesn’t know how to do that,” to which Trump replied, “You’d be surprised.”

The president then repeatedly told Biden that he “just lost the left” on his standing with the Democratic Party’s progressive wing.

“Folks, do you have any idea what this clown is doing?” Biden said.

“I’ll tell you what, he is not for any help for people needing health care because he has in fact already cost 10 million people their health care that they had from their employers because of his recession,” Biden argued.

At one point during the debate, Trump also had an argument with the moderator.

“Mr. President, I’m the moderator of this debate and I’d like you to let me ask my question,” Wallace said.

“I guess I’m debating you, not him,” Trump responded.

Biden and Trump had their first live head-to-head as their verbal brawl was just one of the many heated exchanges that happened within the first 30 minutes of the debate.
