  • Lake’s opponent, Democrat Katie Hobbs, reported to police in October that someone broke into her office and stole some items.

An envelope containing a white substance was discovered by staff at Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake’s campaign headquarters In Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday. Authorities are investigating the “suspicious” white powder.

Ross Trumble, Lake’s campaign spokesperson, said that a member of the campaign staff opened an envelope delivered to the headquarter and found a white substance inside.

“It was one of two envelopes that were confiscated by law enforcement and sent to professionals at Quantico for examination, and we are awaiting details,” Trumble said.

It was sent to the FBI’s state-of-the-art crime lab facilities in Quantico, a town in northern Virginia.

The Phoenix Fire Department responded at about 2 a.m. Sunday to a building near 40th Street and Camelback Road after reports of the suspicious substance that had been mailed in.

Law enforcement personnel went to the headquarters to collect the items and secure the area, Phoenix police said. Sgt. Phil Krynsky, a spokesperson for the police department, said no one was injured and the investigation is ongoing.

“The staff member is currently under medical supervision,” Trumble said. “Just two days before Election Day, our campaign headquarters remains shut down. We look forward to law enforcement completing their investigation as quickly as possible.”

Trumble expressed gratitude to the Phoenix Police Department, FBI, first responders, bomb squad, and hazardous materials crews that responded to the report.

“In the meantime, know that our resolve has never been higher and we cannot be intimidated,” Trumble said.
