  • Authorities arrested 26 alleged Mexican Mafia associates during a Southern California sweep targeting 47 defendants.
  • The indictment alleges an inmate used encrypted apps on smuggled cell phones to run criminal operations from prison.
  • Seized evidence reportedly included more than 130 pounds of narcotics and 25 firearms.

Law enforcement officials conducted a series of pre-dawn raids across Orange County on Thursday to dismantle a dangerous criminal underworld.

This operation resulted in 45 defendants currently in custody facing charges including racketeering, kidnapping, and drug trafficking.

Prosecutors allege the group maintained control over Hispanic street gangs through violence and intimidation.

The investigation uncovered a brutal 2025 murder at an Anaheim motel allegedly committed by two men seeking entry into the organization.

“Gang members who murder, extort, kidnap, and traffic drugs and firearms are a menace to our communities and our way of life,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli stated.

“Today’s arrests highlight the continuing cooperation between federal and local law enforcement against violent felons and our unyielding determination to crack down on organized crime in our prisons and our streets.”

The crackdown remains a high priority for federal leadership as they attempt to reclaim local neighborhoods from transnational criminal influence.

FBI Director Kash Patel noted that these arrests took down alleged murderers and racketeers from the self-described gang of gangs.

“This type of criminal activity has a direct impact on our neighborhoods and our residents,” Anaheim Police Chief Manny Cid said.

As the legal process moves forward, two fugitives remain at large while several defendants face potential life sentences or the death penalty.

Authorities continue to monitor communications within the prison system to prevent further coordination of street crimes.
