WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former top Department of Homeland Security official Miles Taylor revealed that he was the “Anonymous” author who wrote critical op-ed against President Donald Trump in 2018.
  • “This is the least impressive, lamest political ‘reveal’ of all time,” Trump’s campaign said in a statement in response to Taylor’s revelation.
  • Last August, Taylor appeared in an ad by the Republican Voters Against Trump group, urging the people to vote for Joe Biden.

The anonymous writer of a New York Times 2018 op-ed has been revealed as Miles Taylor, a former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security. Taylor, who then kept her identity, wrote that there was a “quiet resistance,” aiming to save the US, that was formed inside President Donald Trump’s administration.

In a recent statement, Taylor said, “I am a Republican, and I wanted this president to succeed. “But too often in times of crisis, Donald Trump has proven he is a man without character, and his personal defects have resulted in leadership failures so significant that they can be measured in lost American lives.”

Further, Taylor also encouraged Americans to vote for Joe Biden.

The former chief of staff also acknowledged that his op-ed was wrong in one aspect when he wrote, “The country cannot rely on well-intentioned, unelected bureaucrats around the president to steer him towards right. He has purged most of them anyway.”

Last year, Taylor resigned from his post. In August, he appeared in an ad initiated by the group called Republican Voters Against Trump, where he criticized the president and urged people to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden instead.

“Given what I experienced in the administration, I have to support Joe Biden for president,” he said.

Taylor also accused Trump of trying to “exploit the Department of Homeland Security for his own political purposes and to fuel his own agenda” in the ad.

The Trump campaign issued a feisty statement in response to Taylor’s revelation.

“This is the least impressive, lamest political ‘reveal’ of all time. I worked with DHS officials while I was in the White House, and even I had to research who Miles Taylor was. He’s just another standard-issue arrogant, Washington, DC swamp bro who loved President Trump until he figured out he could try to make money by attacking him,” Trump campaign’s national press secretary Hogan Gidley said.

The published article, followed by a book launched with the same context back in 2018, made media buzz and fueled speculations about the author’s identity. Trump and White House officials were agitated as they tried to uncover the identity of the writer but ended up failing.
