Radio Host Gets the Ax Over “Sexist” Comments

Clear Facts:
- Radio host Don Geronimo was dismissed by iHeartMedia following sexist remarks made towards TV sports reporter Sharla McBride.
- Geronimo’s remarks were aired on The Don Geronimo Show, prompting quick action from both the Commanders and iHeartMedia.
- Sharla McBride expressed gratitude for the swift handling of the situation and used the incident to confront public negativity.
Veteran radio host Don Geronimo (a.k.a. Michael Sorce) recently lost his job with WBIG-FM, an iHeartMedia station, over comments deemed sexist.
The remarks were directed at sports reporter Sharla McBride while both were covering the Washington Commanders’ training camp.
Geronimo, while covering the training camp on his show, The Don Geronimo Show, referred to McBride as “Barbie” and belittled her professional role, stating, “Hey look, Barbie’s here. Hi, Barbie girl!”
He later went on to guess aloud, “I’m guessing she’s a cheerleader,” and dismissively labeled her as “that chick.”
Geronimo also addressed his producer, Crash Young, making a degrading comment about McBride being the woman Young thought was “tight.”
Young’s response was interrupted before he could finish his sentence.
Geronimo’s tenure on The Don Geronimo Show was brief, beginning only in 2021, but his radio career spans various stations over many years.
Following the incident, iHeartMedia took swift action.
“After an internal review, Don Geronimo is no longer an employee of WBIG,” announced Aaron Hyland, the D.C. regional president of iHeartMedia.
He asserted that the company treats such matters seriously and that Geronimo’s conduct failed to align with their core values.
The Commanders’ spokesperson expressed satisfaction with iHeartMedia’s prompt resolution.
Prior to Geronimo’s termination, the Commanders had already barred both Geronimo and Young from reporting at their training camp.
McBride communicated her distress over the incident with ESPN, stating, “In my 17 years as a professional journalist, I have never been disrespected in such a blatant manner while trying to do my job. Their words were sexist and misogynistic.”
In a social media post, McBride also addressed disparaging comments from a minor fraction of the public, stating she would dismiss their negativity and never think of their harsh words again.
Geronimo has remained tight-lipped about his firing, stating on Twitter, “At this time I will not be providing comment on the events of the last few days.” He is reportedly seeking advice on his options moving forward.

The left and idiots like Biden are destroying this country. As far as McBride goes, never heard of her. Just typical of weak women who are always offended. If she had any backbone she’d just laugh it off.

Sharla McBride is gorgeous and highly intelligent. I don’t see the offense b y a dj desk jockey calling her Barbie, and that chic, she has to be able to shrug comments off in social media to survive, and Geronimo needs to learn some manners

Would like to further add; there is a media issue here regarding “woman” taking the reporting lead in mens sports. I do think it is out of place. Men know about sports events, training and player issues, while woman look like they have been wound up with a canned response, I do not believe they can be sincere and many sports pros are turned off over that including the male population at large. She drew fire from a sports DJ which was obviously affected by something. I know I change the channel when some female sportscaster is trying to talk about an old sporting statistic or ball pitcher’s stats from 30 years ago and I know she has’nt got a clue really. Shame on Geronimo for lack of restraint but this is not the end of the problem.
