Denmark and Greenland were always open to more U.S. bases in Greenland. In fact, this agreement was completed months ago, with the only question whether Trump would accept it. And TACO lived up to his nickname once again.
It’s a shame that Trump offended so many allies and undermined NATO for this rather obvious outcome.
And to the Trump Kool-Aid drinkers like the first commenter, you might want to actually read the agreement. One of the versions is in English. You will see that the U.S. in no way “controls” Greenland, acknowledges and reaffirms the rights of Denmark and Greenland under their previous agreements, and is barred from most unilateral actions.

A big show of nothing. The agreement was no different from the prior agreements with Denmark. Just that these are short term agreements that have to be renewed every few years.
