Authorities confirmed the shooter had a grievance and entered the wrong elevator bank before the rampage.

Officer Didarul Islam, 36, served three-and-a-half years with the NYPD and leaves behind a pregnant wife and two children.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described Islam’s actions as courageous and honorable.

“He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He put himself in harm’s way. He made the ultimate sacrifice. He died as he lived. A hero.”

Mayor Eric Adams lowered city flags in recognition of Officer Islam and the other victims.

“Officer Didarul Islam died as he lived, a hero and protector of New York City. We will never forget you.”
