Former OJ Simpson attorney and longtime friend back claims of possible accomplice in 1994 murders

Clear Facts
- Former OJ Simpson defense attorney Alan Dershowitz stated on Fox News that claims of a second person involved in the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman are plausible and should be investigated.
- Joseph Ippolito, a mob-linked drug trafficker with ties to OJ Simpson and Al Cowlings, reportedly told federal prosecutors he had information about efforts to dispose of evidence, including the murder weapon that was never recovered.
- Ippolito’s brother Sam claimed Ippolito returned home on the night of the murders with a heavy bag and blood on his hands, later recanting after asking for payment for his story.
Former OJ Simpson defense attorney Alan Dershowitz stated that the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman remain an open case. He believes the latest claims about a possible accomplice deserve fresh scrutiny.
Dershowitz told Fox News that the murders would have been difficult for one person to commit and then dispose of evidence. He called for investigators to start from scratch and examine the new information.
“It seems plausible and perhaps credible,” former Simpson defense attorney Alan Dershowitz said on Fox News’ “America Reports” Monday.
“I think we ought to start from scratch and look at this evidence anew and see if there is credible evidence of a second person,” he told Fox News. “I’ve often, right from the beginning, thought that this was very difficult for one person to have brought off and not only killed two people, but then disposed of the evidence and done all the things that we know occurred in this case.”
The claims surfaced in a New York Times report about Joseph Ippolito, a drug trafficker and restaurateur who knew Simpson and was close with Al Cowlings. Ippolito reportedly told federal prosecutors he had information on the missing murder weapon.
Ippolito’s brother Sam told the Times that Ippolito returned home on the night of the murders with a heavy bag and blood on his hands. Sam claimed his brother ditched the bag in a dumpster on Doheny Drive.
Charlie Ehrlich, a longtime friend of Ippolito and later a close associate of Simpson, also believes a second person was involved.
“In my mind, there is a secondary guy,” he told Fox News Digital Monday. “Who? I have no clue. But I believe, in my mind, there is.”
“Do I think he did it? I don’t know,” he said. “If he did it, or if he did not do it, I never saw him get angry — and I was with him a lot the last 10-12 years here of his life here in Florida. We were together every weekend.”
Dr. Michael Baden, the forensic pathologist hired by Simpson’s defense team, told Fox News Digital there was no scientific evidence of more than one attacker. Many key figures in the case, including Simpson and Ippolito, are now deceased.
“This should be looked at,” Dershowitz said. “This is not a closed case.”
