A civilian was detained outside MacDill Air Force Base after assaulting security personnel on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred at the Tampa installation which serves as headquarters for U.S. Central Command.

The individual breached the perimeter around 1 p.m. and became involved in a violent confrontation with base security. Both the assailant and one security officer received non-life-threatening injuries during the struggle.

“The Dale Mabry Gate is currently closed to inbound and outbound traffic until further notice,” the base stated on social media. “Please plan accordingly and avoid the Dale Mabry Gate area until further notice.”

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Base officials have not released details regarding the civilian’s identity or motive for the attack.
