Four alleged narco-terrorists were killed in the strike. This action is part of the Trump administration’s ongoing effort to dismantle cartel-linked trafficking networks operating in the region. SOUTHCOM has conducted dozens of similar strikes in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean targeting vessels connected to these networks.

The September 19 strike follows a similar operation on September 9 that resulted in three deaths. The Trump administration’s campaign against suspected cartel vessels has now led to at least 231 deaths across 69 reported strikes in roughly one year. These operations target vessels allegedly tied to Los Choneros, which the military has described as a violent narco-terrorist organization.

Video of the operation shows a vessel moving through the water before erupting into a massive fireball. SOUTHCOM has also released videos showing military personnel intercepting and boarding vessels before removing crews and sinking the boats.
