Arkansas Schools Caught in Legal Battle Over Ten Commandments Displays

Clear Facts
- Federal Judge Timothy Brooks permanently barred six Arkansas school districts from displaying Ten Commandments per state law.
- Districts include Fayetteville, Bentonville, Conway, Lakeside, Siloam Springs, Springdale.
- Brooks cited Establishment Clause violation based on lawmakers’ religious intent statements.
- Law requires displays funded by donations alongside flags and In God We Trust.
- Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders vows to appeal and protect state values.
An Obama-appointed judge ruled Arkansas’ classroom display mandate coercive and proselytizing.
The decision targets specific districts but erects major obstacles to statewide enforcement.
Diverse parents sued, arguing displays infringe on their right to guide children’s faith using the mandated King James version.
“the only reason to display a sacred, religious text in every classroom is to proselytize to children. The State has said the quiet part out loud,” Judge Brooks wrote.
“to acknowledge the historical importance of the Ten Commandments,” state attorneys argued.
“reading and meditating” on the commandments teaches children to appreciate the “virtues and qualities that we should all aspire to as Christians,” one lawmaker stated.
“Children cannot similarly avoid reading the Ten Commandments posted in their classrooms for thirteen years of compulsory schooling,” Brooks noted.
Louisiana recently upheld a similar law while Texas battles challenges, pointing toward Supreme Court resolution.
This ruling assaults foundational moral principles essential to American heritage.

Now, what’s wrong with the KJV? I mean, if it was good enough for Jesus and Paul, it should be good enough for us…..right! WRONG!!! Jesus, Paul and the Apostles did NOT use the KJV. It wasn’t .. the 1600’s, well after the Bible was given by God. To be precise, these KJ fanatics should use the original Hebrew and Greek…..RIGHT!
