The Milwaukee Brewers are now two wins away from their first World Series title after completing a dramatic comeback victory in Game 2. The Rays jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning but could not hold on.

Sal Frelick tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Cooper Pratt then delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh to put Milwaukee ahead 5-4.

“The Brewers bullpen kept the Rays off the scoreboard after the opening frame,” noted the official game recap.

The decisive moment came in the ninth inning when first-base umpire ruled that Yandy Diaz failed to check his swing on a 3-2 pitch. Aaron Ashby then recorded the final out to preserve the victory.

“The call could have gone either way,” the recap acknowledged, noting that Jonathan Aranda and Chandler Simpson were due up next for Tampa Bay.

Milwaukee recorded 11 hits while holding the Rays to just seven total, with three of those coming in the opening inning. Tampa Bay managed no runs after the first.

“Teams that take the first two games of a best-of-seven postseason series are 79-16 all time,” the recap stated.

The 1996 New York Yankees remain the last team to win the World Series after dropping the first two games. Game 3 is scheduled for Monday night in Tampa Bay.
