Clear Facts
- Stephen Colbert’s CBS late-night show is set to end in May 2026 due to a lack of profitability.
- Scott Jennings humorously “eulogized” Colbert’s show, criticizing its performance and impact.
- CBS settled a $10 billion lawsuit with Donald Trump over a 2024 interview with Kamala Harris.
Republican strategist Scott Jennings couldn’t hide his satisfaction following CBS’s announcement that Stephen Colbert’s late-night talk show would be ending in May 2026. The network cited a lack of profitability as the reason for the decision to retire the show.
On his radio show, Jennings took the opportunity to humorously “eulogize” Colbert’s program. He asked his technical crew to play Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel,” a song famously used in ASPCA commercials, as he prepared to roast the late-night host.
“The other big media story last night? Let’s cue the music, we gotta cue it up for, we have to eulogize our friend Stephen Colbert,” Jennings remarked as the song began to play. He then played Colbert’s announcement to his studio audience from Thursday night’s episode of “The Late Show.”
Jennings didn’t hold back in his critique, questioning Colbert’s job performance. “How bad at your job do you have to be for your company to not only fire you, but to board up your office so that no one else can ever go in there again?” he asked. Jennings went on to say, “That’s what’s happening to Stephen Colbert, who will forever be remembered as the person who destroyed David Letterman’s entire legacy.”
Jennings also pointed out the reactions from political figures like Elizabeth Warren and Stacey Abrams, suggesting their disappointment was telling. “Look at who’s mad about this, by the way, that tells you all you need to know about why it was cancelled,” he said. “Elizabeth Warren is mad, she wants congressional investigations. Stacey Abrams is mad. ‘The news of Stephen Colbert cancellation is disheartening. I’ve appeared on there four different times.’ Only Stacey Abrams could make it about her.”
Adding to the controversy surrounding CBS, the network recently settled a $10 billion lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump. The lawsuit concerned the editing of an October 2024 interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election. Warren criticized the settlement, calling it “bribery” in a post on social media.
Jennings further commented on Abrams’ frequent appearances on Colbert’s show, saying, “The fact that Stacey was on there four times ought to tell ya. A failed Democrat gubernatorial candidate from a state got four slots on Colbert and they’re wondering why nobody wants to watch this garbage anymore?”

Colbert was cancelled because Trump was doing what he promised he’d do to anyone who mottled his thin skin: get revenge. It was NOT for financial reasons; it was because Colbert’s high intelligence and quick wit rankled a childish , petulant man who couldn’t take the heat. Colbert is VERY popular among thinking people.
