Actress Hayden Panettiere, beloved for her roles in “Nashville” and the NBC drama “Heroes,” has died at the age of 36. Her representative confirmed the tragic news on Sunday.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

The actress had been remarkably candid in recent years about her struggles with substance abuse and postpartum depression. Just three months ago in May, she published her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” chronicling her personal battles and path toward recovery.

Panettiere was raised in New York by her mother, actress and producer Lesley Vogel, and her father, Alan Lee “Skip” Panettiere, a retired New York City Fire Department captain. Her career began at an extraordinarily young age — just 11 months old, appearing in a Playskool Toy Train commercial.

“My introduction to acting was actually at 11 months old. I don’t know if that would really be an introduction to acting, because I don’t think acting was involved at that point. I didn’t have lines, I was just playing.”

After early guest appearances on soap operas and shows like “Law & Order: SVU,” Panettiere’s career breakthrough came when she landed the role of Claire Bennet, the indestructible cheerleader on NBC’s “Heroes.” The role catapulted her to stardom and made her a household name.

Following “Heroes'” conclusion in 2010, Panettiere secured another major television role in “Nashville,” which ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2018. The show further cemented her status as a talented actress capable of carrying a primetime drama.

Her personal life included an on-again, off-again relationship with heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko that spanned from 2009-2011 and 2013-2018. The couple had one daughter together, Kaya, born in 2014.

Tragedy had already touched Panettiere’s family when her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, passed away in 2023 at just 28 years old. He died from cardiomegaly, an enlarged heart, with aortic valve complications.

No official cause of death has been reported for the actress at this time.
