The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee this week placed a far-left candidate with a criminal record and radical past statements on its official target list for November.

Will Lawrence, the nominee in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, was arrested in 2013 during a protest on charges of resisting and obstructing an officer and trespassing.

“I don’t support defunding the police. I follow the lead of first responders and gun violence prevention advocates I have met with here in the district, who support increased funding for youth programs, mental health resources, and community violence intervention, working in collaboration with law enforcement.”

Lawrence has since deleted hundreds of earlier social media posts that called for scrapping police and prisons, open borders, and abolishing the Senate.

He also once labeled the nuclear family a “violent way of organizing society.”

“Like many millennials, I’ve done my fair share of thinking out loud on the internet.”

The DCCC’s decision comes after the Congressional Black Caucus delayed any endorsement, citing Lawrence’s past criticism of Black political leaders as “pillars” of the “capitalist, imperialist” establishment.

Lawrence has apologized for those remarks.

“I think they waited so long because he is a pretty far-left candidate running in a swing district that is currently held by a Republican and two, he has said something very, very controversial about African-Americans and that’s not great combination when you’re trying to win a swing district.”

NRCC spokesman Zach Bannon criticized the move, saying Democrats are embracing a candidate who wants to abolish police, prisons, and fossil fuels while allowing sex changes for minors.

Lawrence now faces Republican Rep. Tom Barrett in a district President Trump won by just one point in 2024.
