Elon Musk disclosed a shocking revelation about government spending. According to Musk, a federal survey, which could have been executed for a mere $10,000 using tools like SurveyMonkey, ended up costing taxpayers close to $1 billion.
This revelation came as part of Musk’s efforts with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to identify and cut unnecessary government expenditures.
“The sheer amount of waste and fraud in the government,” Musk stated, “It is astonishing. It’s mind-blowing.”
He elaborated on the survey, noting that it was a simple 10-question format.
“You could do it with SurveyMonkey, [which] would cost about $10,000. The government was being charged almost a billion dollars for that,” Musk said.
Musk confirmed, explaining that the survey had no practical use.
“A billion dollars for a simple online survey — ‘Do you like the National Park?,’ and then there appeared to be no feedback loop for what would be done with that survey,” he said. “So the survey would just go into nothing. It was insane.”
The push for Musk and DOGE to evaluate government spending began after President Donald Trump took office. Their mission is to uncover wasteful spending and propose cuts to save taxpayer dollars.
Despite facing opposition from Democrats, particularly concerning their plans to overhaul the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Musk remains committed to his task. He warned that USAID was responsible for wasting billions of taxpayer dollars.
Musk remains optimistic about the progress being made. When asked if he could complete his task within the 130-day time frame allotted as a “special government employee,” Musk responded confidently.
“I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars within that time frame,” he said.
He further added, “We are cutting the waste and fraud in real time. So every day like that passes, our goal is to reduce the waste and fraud by $4 billion a day, every day, seven days a week. So far we are succeeding.”

I am impressed with what Mr. Musk & Dogs has accomplished so far.My concern is what happens after he completes his work. Will the government go back to there wasteful ways.This is a ongoing project unless Congress is on board all of this work will be a waste as well.
