In a recent discussion, Victor Davis Hanson, a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, shared his prediction that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer might soon be unseated by none other than New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

This prediction comes in light of Schumer’s declining support, especially after he sided with Republicans on a spending bill, which did not sit well with his Democratic colleagues.

The incident involving a Mexican Navy ship crashing into the Brooklyn Bridge further spotlighted Schumer’s vulnerabilities. Schumer’s response to the crash, where he suggested that cuts to the Coast Guard’s vigilance might have played a role, was criticized by Hanson.

Hanson remarked, “He suggested that cuts to the Coast Guard’s vigilance allowed this to happen, which was untrue. He’s really deteriorated.”

Schumer’s past actions, such as his call for Democratic operatives to disrupt Republican town halls, have also been contentious. Hanson noted, “He calls for violence almost. He’s in an existential crisis.”

Following the ship crash, Schumer took to social media, stating his intention to investigate “whether Trump and DOGE have impacted water traffic control.”

This move was seen as another attempt by Schumer to shift blame onto the Trump administration.

Despite Schumer’s efforts to align with Democratic initiatives, his decision to support a Republican-backed stopgap funding bill led to significant backlash from within his party.

Hanson believes that Schumer’s age and long tenure in the Senate might not be enough to secure his position. “I think he’s 73, and he’s an institution, and he’s not going to go out like Dianne Feinstein,” Hanson stated.

He further elaborated, “AOC is going to vote him out. He knows that.”

Polls reflect this sentiment, with a survey indicating that 55% of likely Democratic voters would support Ocasio-Cortez in a Senate race, compared to 36% for Schumer.
