- Donald Trump has endorsed Jack Ciattarelli for the 2025 New Jersey gubernatorial election, solidifying his position as the frontrunner for the GOP primary.
- Ciattarelli, a former New Jersey assemblyman, previously lost the 2021 governor’s race by a narrow margin and is focusing on issues like cost of living and government reform.
- Despite Trump’s endorsement, Ciattarelli faces competition from other GOP candidates, including Bill Spadea and Mario Kranjac.
In a significant move that could shape the political landscape of New Jersey, former President Donald Trump has thrown his weight behind Jack Ciattarelli for the upcoming 2025 gubernatorial race. With this endorsement, Ciattarelli emerges as the leading candidate in the Republican primary, scheduled for June 10.
Ciattarelli, who previously served as a New Jersey assemblyman and was the Republican nominee in the 2021 governor’s race, is no stranger to the political arena. Despite losing to Democratic Governor Phil Murphy by a mere three percentage points, Ciattarelli’s campaign has gained momentum, especially with Trump’s support.
“Jack, who after getting to know and understand MAGA, has gone ALL IN, and is now 100% (PLUS!),” Trump declared on Truth Social.
“He is strongly supported by the most Highly Respected Leaders in New Jersey and, as your next Governor, Jack Ciattarelli will work closely with me and the Trump Administration to advance our America First Agenda.”
The endorsement comes at a time when Ciattarelli’s internal polls already showed a substantial lead over his closest rival, former radio host Bill Spadea. Trump further emphasized his confidence in Ciattarelli by stating, “Jack Ciattarelli is a WINNER, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement. HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, ELECT JACK CIATTARELLI!”
In response, Ciattarelli expressed his gratitude and called for unity within the party.
“Truly humbled and honored to receive President Trump’s very strong endorsement today,” he wrote in a statement.
“It’s time to unite our party, win big in November, and make New Jersey affordable and safe again. When I’m Governor, we will.”
The endorsement follows a meeting at Trump’s Bedminster golf club in March, where both Ciattarelli and Spadea made their cases. Despite Spadea’s efforts to position himself as the true pro-Trump candidate, it was Ciattarelli who secured the former president’s backing.
Spadea, undeterred by the endorsement, remains committed to his campaign.
“Donald Trump’s endorsement comes after a years long effort by Jack to lie about his own record. My resolve to fight for the people of New Jersey has never been greater,” Spadea stated.
“I intend to continue fighting for the America First agenda because that is what’s best for the state and our nation.”
Ciattarelli’s platform focuses on several key issues, including the cost of living, government reform, and energy policy. He has also shown support for Trump’s border policies and trade initiatives, recognizing the need for “short-term pain for the long-term gain.”
The GOP primary is shaping up to be a competitive race, with other candidates like former Englewood Cliffs Mayor Mario Kranjac and State Sen. Jon Bramnick also vying for the nomination. The winner will face the Democratic nominee in a state that has seen a notable shift toward Republican support in recent years.
As New Jersey prepares for this crucial election, all eyes will be on how Trump’s endorsement influences the outcome and whether Ciattarelli can capitalize on this momentum to secure a victory in November.
