  • Trump defended the operation as necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons
  • The president said it would take Iran 20 years to rebuild from the damage already inflicted

President Donald Trump signaled that military operations against Iran are approaching their conclusion, while defending the timing and scope of the intervention. The president made his remarks during a Wednesday morning appearance on Fox Business Network’s Mornings with Maria.

Trump explained the strategic necessity behind the operation, warning of the consequences had he not acted decisively.

“I had to divert because if I didn’t do that right now, you would have Iran with a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. “And if they had a nuclear weapon, you would be calling everybody over there, ‘sir’ — and you don’t want to do that.”

Host Maria Bartiromo pressed the president on his use of past-tense language when discussing the conflict. “Well you keep saying ‘was’… Is this war over?” she asked.

“I think it’s close to over. I mean, I view it as very close to over,” Trump responded.

The president emphasized the significant damage already inflicted on Iranian infrastructure and military capabilities. He suggested that even an immediate cessation of operations would leave Iran crippled for decades.

“If I pulled up stakes right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild that country,” Trump said.

Despite indicating the operation is nearing completion, Trump made clear that final decisions have not been made. “We’re not finished. We’ll see what happens,” he said.

The president expressed confidence that Iran now recognizes the need for diplomatic resolution. “I think they want to make a deal very badly,” Trump stated.

The operation, which has targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities and military infrastructure, represents a decisive shift in American policy toward the Islamic Republic. Trump’s willingness to use overwhelming force has sent a clear message about the consequences of pursuing nuclear weapons and threatening American interests in the region.

The president’s comments suggest that diplomatic channels may soon open, with Iran potentially seeking terms after suffering extensive damage to its military and industrial capacity.
