Baylor University stands out for its commitment to faith alongside athletic excellence. The largest Baptist university in the nation has seen hundreds of student-athletes baptized, reflecting an environment where faith is celebrated on and off the field.

Quarterback Sawyer Robertson shared,

“There’s not very many schools across the country that have a competitive athletics program that combine that with a faith-based mission within the school. Fortunately, Baylor is one of those schools that does that.”

Head Basketball Coach Scott Drew remarked,

“Being able to be a part of the athletes’ lives and their spiritual journey is one of the coolest things about working at Baylor.”

Student-led Bible studies bring dozens of athletes together weekly, strengthening team bonds and deepening personal faith. Coach Drew has presided over many athlete baptisms, with the university even commemorating these moments on a baptism wall.

Players choose who will baptize them, often selecting teammates or coaches who have influenced them. Recently, ten football team members were baptized by their peers, a moment of spiritual unity and encouragement on campus.

Bible study participation continues to grow, with leaders like Robertson guiding teammates through the Scriptures. These gatherings often spark first-time faith commitments among players, further strengthening Baylor’s Christian culture.

The Baylor athletic complex provides space for these spiritual milestones, including modern facilities for baptisms. Traditions such as the team’s pre-game chapels highlight the ongoing, positive influence of Christian principles within the sports program.

Coach Drew said,

“Our chaplain baptized five players on the way down to the University of Texas. We’re versatile.”

Throughout campus, scripture and encouragement are visible, signaling Baylor’s clear values to students and families alike. Baylor’s integration of faith and athletics serves as a model for strong leadership and direction grounded in traditional values.
