A suspect forced entry after ramming the synagogue entrance with his vehicle.
FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted recent bureau training with clergy and staff.
“Just months ago, our team at FBI Detroit Field Office conducted active-shooter preparedness training with the clergy and staff at Temple Israel, focusing on the Run, Hide, Fight principles and real-world decision-making under pressure,” Patel stated.
The January session used scenario-based exercises to teach response strategies during threats.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard credited preparation for halting the intruder swiftly.
“We know there’s evil in the world, and we know they only have to get it right once, and sometimes they do. They may not come on anybody’s radar and they show up, but what happens when they show up, that’s where training and preparation kicks in,” Bouchard said.
“The security staff did an amazing job, an amazing job, and you’ll get some of the details on that, but they stopped the threat.”
One security leader was hospitalized after being struck by the vehicle.
Thirty law enforcement officers received treatment for smoke inhalation.
This event proves vigilance and training protect communities rooted in tradition.
