A cold-blooded killer walked into a U.S. Bank branch in Berea, Kentucky on Thursday and executed two employees during a daylight robbery that has left a community in mourning and law enforcement agencies mobilized across the region.
Trooper Scottie Pennington, spokesperson for Kentucky State Police, confirmed that a masked gunman wearing a gray-and-white hoodie and gloves entered the bank and opened fire, killing one male and one female employee. The suspect fled the scene toward East Chestnut Street immediately following the murders.
“They’re our people that work in our community, and they’re no longer with us,” Pennington said. “At this time we do have some leads, and we’re trying our best to bring this evil person to justice.”
State police have released photographs of the suspect on social media. He is believed to stand approximately 6-foot-3 tall. Authorities remain uncertain whether the suspect escaped on foot, by vehicle, or with the assistance of an accomplice.
Pennington declined to disclose whether any money or property was taken during the robbery, citing the ongoing investigation.
A massive law enforcement response has been deployed across the area. Local police, Kentucky State Police, and the FBI are coordinating search efforts utilizing helicopters, drones, and K-9 tracking units in an attempt to locate the armed and dangerous suspect.
“If you see something strange and you don’t feel right about it — you know, your dogs are acting weird — call us,” Pennington said.
As a precautionary measure, local schools were placed on temporary lockdown during the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Students were later released safely to their parents after law enforcement cleared the area.
U.S. Bank issued a statement confirming cooperation with law enforcement and expressing support for those affected by the tragedy.
“We’re deeply saddened by the tragic event that took the lives of two of our employees at our Berea, Kentucky branch earlier today,” the company said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, our colleagues and the entire Berea community.”
The brazen daylight attack has shocked the close-knit community of Berea, where residents are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
