ESPN reported that Heat center Bam Adebayo allegedly struck Bucks guard Tyler Herro in the head area at an NBA Summer League practice facility. The incident occurred as Summer League action returned to the Las Vegas area, with both players in town for the weekend’s games.

According to sources familiar with the situation, Adebayo confronted Herro over alleged Instagram direct messages in which the former Heat guard questioned his defensive prowess. The reported comments surfaced after the major trade that sent superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami while Herro headed to Milwaukee, ending years of partnership between the two players.

Screenshots circulating online purportedly showed Herro engaging with a fan in private messages, casting doubt on whether Adebayo’s defensive effort justified his massive salary. The Heat center signed a three-year, $166 million extension in June 2024, putting his annual compensation near $60 million.

Despite the reported altercation, Herro maintained a public posture of civility. He greeted Bucks Summer League players after Miami’s 119-86 victory and briefly spoke with former Heat teammate Jaime Jaquez Jr., who now plays for Milwaukee.

During a Prime Video broadcast interview at the game, Herro downplayed any tension with his former organization.

“It’s all love in Miami,” Herro said. “I’ve seen a couple of the guys, coaching staff, Chris Quinn, Spo [Erik Spoelstra], the front office guys; we are all good in Miami. Just an opportunity for both sides to reset, get a fresh start, and both are super happy with this.”

First-year Bucks head coach Taylor Jenkins declined to address the incident when asked by SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“I have no comment,” Jenkins said. “I don’t really know all the specifics.”

The confrontation adds another layer to what has already been a dramatic offseason for both franchises. Adebayo remains a cornerstone of Miami’s defense and recently delivered a franchise-record 83-point performance against the Washington Wizards in March, the second-highest scoring night in NBA history behind only Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game.

Herro, the league’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2022, brings offensive firepower to a Milwaukee squad now built around Antetokounmpo. The alleged private messages questioning Adebayo’s commitment represent a sharp departure from the public unity the two displayed as teammates.

Both the Heat and Bucks issued brief statements acknowledging awareness of the situation but declining further comment. The NBA has not announced whether it will investigate or take any disciplinary action regarding the alleged physical altercation.

The incident serves as a reminder of how quickly professional relationships can sour in today’s NBA, where social media has become a flashpoint for conflicts that once might have remained private.
