Rocked by Affair Allegations, Congressman Steps Away from Re-election

Clear Facts
- Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) announced no re-election bid after admitting extramarital affair with former staffer.
- House Ethics Committee probes potential misconduct and favors amid staffer’s suicide last year.
- GOP leaders including Speaker Mike Johnson urged withdrawal, clearing path for challenger Brandon Herrera.
Married father of six, Gonzales confessed the lapse publicly on conservative radio. He reconciled with wife Angel and reaffirmed faith.
“At 18, I swore an oath to defend our nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. During my 20 years in the military and three terms in Congress, I have fought for that cause with absolute dedication to the country that I love,” Gonzales stated.
“After deep reflection and with the support of my loving family, I have decided not to seek re-election while serving out the rest of this Congress with the same commitment I’ve always had to my district,” he added.
“I made a mistake, and I had a lapse in judgment, and there was a lack of faith, and I take full responsibility for those actions,” Gonzales said on radio.
GOP leadership demanded swift Ethics action and direct constituent response. They pressed Gonzales to exit the race.
“The Ethics Committee has announced an investigation into Congressman Tony Gonzales’s conduct, and we urge them to act expeditiously. Congressman Gonzales has said he will fully cooperate with the investigation,” leaders stated.
Herrera, who edged Gonzales narrowly, vows focus on border security and Texas priorities. Gonzales will finish his term serving district needs.
Herrera called it the appropriate decision.
“I appreciate Tony Gonzales for making the appropriate decision,” Herrera wrote. “I look forward to being the voice of TX23 that our district deserves.”
Strong GOP accountability upholds family values and conservative principles.

Lots of gaslighting and very selective reporting in this slanted article!
In fact, but not reported here:
• Rep. Gonzalez repeatedly denied any impropriety with his staffer.
• When the young staffer had the temerity to file a formal complaint, Gonzalez’ other staff bullied her mercilessly.
• In this hostile work environment, depressed, and with her career seemingly over, she took her own life.
• Only congressional Democrats and a handful of Republican women, such as Nancy Mace, called for Gonzalez’ resignation.
• Indeed, Speaker Johnson pointedly refused to call for accountability, saying the “process must play out”. Apparently, family values are less important than retaining power over the House.
• None of this so-called “accountability” began to occur until AFTER Gonzalez lost his primary last week. What if he had won?
And Gonzalez is STILL not resigning! Rep. Sleazebag will continue to be paid by the taxpayers through the end of 2026.
