U.S. Southern Command announced military backing for Ecuador’s fight against narcoterrorists Friday night. Strikes targeted drug-running boats amid rising threats from Venezuelan and Mexican-linked gangs.
Since September 2, joint operations sank a vessel carrying 11 members of Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang. President Trump designated Tren de Aragua a foreign terrorist organization on January 20, 2025.
SOUTHCOM Commander Marine Corps Gen. Francis L. Donovan ordered support for Ecuadorian forces conducting lethal actions against terrorist groups within Ecuador on March 6.
“We are advancing alongside our partners in the fight against narcoterrorism,” Marine Corps Gen. Francis L. Donovan said.
“I congratulate our joint forces and the Ecuadorian armed forces for the successful operation against narcoterrorists in Ecuador. This collaborative and decisive action is a strategic success for all nations in the Western Hemisphere committed to disrupting and defeating narcoterrorism.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio designated Ecuadorian gangs Los Choneros and Los Lobos—tied to Mexican cartels—as foreign terrorist organizations on September 4, 2025.
President Trump’s designations of Mexican drug cartels bolster hemispheric security from day one of his second term.
These actions shield American streets from deadly drugs flooding borders, affirming strong leadership under Trump administration.
“The United States, in partnership with Ecuador and its President Daniel Noboa, will continue to protect our two nations by keeping illicit drugs off our streets and disrupting the revenue streams funding drug cartels’ terrorism and criminal activity,” the State Department stated.
Victory against narcoterrorism upholds traditional values, securing borders and sovereignty for freedom-loving nations.
