The teenage victim was shot shortly before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Vandeventer and Laclede avenues. She was transported to a local hospital and listed in stable condition, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Court documents identified 27-year-old Adam White as the alleged shooter. White worked at the Jimmy John’s location where the confrontation originated. He now faces a lengthy list of felony charges including first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and first-degree child endangerment.

According to police, the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving the teenage girl’s mother and several individuals associated with the restaurant in the 3800 block of Laclede.

“A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting followed a disagreement involving the girl’s mother and several individuals associated with the Jimmy John’s in the 3800 block of Laclede. The mother’s connection to the restaurant remains under investigation,” the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Investigators say the girl’s mother’s boyfriend later arrived at the restaurant with the 14-year-old. What began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into violence.

Court documents reveal that White got into a verbal argument with a former employee that continued into the parking lot. The former employee, her boyfriend, and her juvenile daughter then entered a vehicle to leave the scene.

As the vehicle drove away, White allegedly fired multiple rounds into its rear. One bullet struck the teenage girl in the left leg.

“As they drove off, the defendant fired multiple rounds into the rear of the vehicle. Victim 3, the juvenile, was struck by one of the bullets in her left leg,” court documents state.

Investigators documented ballistic damage to the trunk of the vehicle, corroborating witness accounts of the shooting.

According to court documents, White initially fled the scene but later returned. He was taken into custody without incident. After being advised of his Miranda rights, White allegedly admitted to firing at the vehicle and told detectives he had left the gun at his home.

A judge ordered White held without bond pending trial. The serious nature of the charges reflects the gravity of firing a weapon at a vehicle carrying a child.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about workplace violence and the need for effective conflict de-escalation. Community members are left questioning how a restaurant dispute could spiral into such a dangerous situation.
