  • Marco Rubio will temporarily assume the role of National Security Advisor.
  • Mike Waltz’s departure from his current role follows internal tensions and controversies.

President Donald Trump has officially put forward Mike Waltz as his choice for the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations. This decision follows reports that Waltz, who has been serving as National Security Advisor, would be stepping down from his position.

In a social media announcement, Trump expressed his confidence in Waltz’s capabilities, stating, “From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role.”

In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will take on the responsibilities of National Security Advisor. Trump assured that Rubio would maintain his “strong leadership at the State Department” while fulfilling this additional role.

The president emphasized, “Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN.”

Waltz’s departure comes after a series of challenges during his tenure. Notably, he faced scrutiny following an incident where a sensitive military operations discussion was mistakenly exposed. Although Trump initially supported Waltz, his position in the administration became increasingly unstable.

Sources revealed that Waltz’s attempts to retain his role were unsuccessful, as his relationship with the president and key aides did not improve.

The aftermath of the incident led to significant changes within the National Security Council, with several members being dismissed. Activist Laura Loomer reportedly influenced these decisions by providing Trump with information on staff loyalty.

Waltz also encountered difficulties in his interactions with other White House staff. Reports indicated that he struggled to collaborate effectively, and Vice President JD Vance had previously advised him on the importance of teamwork.

A source described Waltz’s approach towards Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, stating, “He treated [Chief of Staff Susie Wiles] like staff and didn’t realize he’s the staff, she’s the embodiment of the president.”

Internal sources suggested that Waltz’s traditionally hawkish stance on national security led to tensions with officials who favored non-interventionist policies. One insider remarked, “President Trump lost confidence in him a while ago.”
