Trump Slams Letitia James Over Cornell Rape Case Bias Claims

Clear Facts
- New York Attorney General Letitia James was appointed special prosecutor in the Cornell University gang rape investigation.
- President Donald Trump called James “corrupt” and questioned her ability to conduct an impartial probe.
- Defense attorneys filed court documents seeking James’ removal from the case over alleged bias.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has vowed to conduct a fair investigation into seven defendants accused of sexually assaulting a Cornell University student at a fraternity party.
The case gained national attention after a lawsuit was filed against Cornell, the Chi Phi fraternity, and several other defendants.
President Donald Trump has strongly criticized James’ appointment as special prosecutor.
“Letitia James is a corrupt person,” Trump said. “She’s totally corrupt, and I can’t imagine it. And I feel badly for whoever she’s looking at because they won’t get a fair shake. Letitia James is a corrupt person.”
James previously posted on social media in support of the alleged victim, identified in court filings as Jane Doe.
“What this young woman has been forced to endure is horrific and unacceptable. I’m holding her in my heart and in my prayers,” James posted on X Sept. 28. “To her, and to all survivors: you’re not alone. We stand with you.”
Defense attorneys Andrew Miltenberg and Teny Geragos have filed motions seeking James’ removal from the case.
Geragos argued in court filings that James’ social media post demonstrates she is “unquestionably biased.”
James has defended her comments as showing “empathy” and insists “politics stops at the door” of her office.
Governor Kathy Hochul has stood by her appointment, stating she has “every confidence” James will “look at the facts, examine the record and draw the proper conclusions.”
The allegations stem from a 2024 incident where a Cornell student claimed she was gang raped at a Chi Phi fraternity house party.
Cornell University Police investigated and submitted a sworn statement to prosecutors, who declined to file charges.
Cornell’s separate Title IX investigation resulted in disciplinary action against several defendants, including two expulsions and two suspensions.
