Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is making a bold move to provide substantial tax relief to homeowners across the Sunshine State. The governor has called a special legislative session to advance his proposal to dramatically reduce and ultimately eliminate property taxes on primary residences.
The initiative represents a significant shift in how Florida funds local services and could save homeowners thousands of dollars annually. DeSantis has long been a champion of reducing the tax burden on working families and retirees who have made Florida their permanent home.

Property taxes have been a growing concern for Florida residents, particularly as home values have surged in recent years. Many longtime residents, especially seniors on fixed incomes, have struggled with rising tax bills that don’t reflect their ability to pay. This proposal directly addresses those concerns with a solution that puts money back in the pockets of Floridians.
The special session will give state lawmakers the opportunity to debate and potentially pass this historic tax reform. If successful, Florida would become a national leader in providing property tax relief to homeowners, further cementing its reputation as a low-tax haven for families and retirees.
Critics may raise questions about how local governments would replace the revenue currently generated by property taxes on primary residences. However, Florida’s strong economic growth and responsible fiscal management under conservative leadership have created opportunities for creative solutions that don’t require burdening taxpayers.
The timing of this initiative reflects DeSantis’s commitment to delivering results for the people who elected him. Rather than waiting for the regular legislative session, he’s calling lawmakers back to Tallahassee to address this critical issue affecting millions of Florida homeowners.
This proposal builds on Florida’s track record of pro-taxpayer policies that have helped attract businesses and families from high-tax states. Eliminating property taxes on primary residences would make Florida even more attractive to Americans seeking freedom from excessive taxation.

Mr DeSantis is great. He has had to deal with crazy home insurance rates that he has no control over so he is helping by reducing what the government takes.
If tax on goods goes up it is only fair, so we become the ones that decide how much tax we want to pay through our buying products. Of course not substantial food iems.
