- A crew member filed the civil lawsuit stemming from the fatal on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins
- The gun Baldwin was holding discharged in October 2021, resulting in Hutchins’ death
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ordered Alec Baldwin to face a civil trial in connection with the fatal shooting on the set of the Western film “Rust.” The ruling comes after a crew member filed a lawsuit against the actor related to the October 2021 incident that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The tragedy occurred when a gun Baldwin was holding discharged during a rehearsal on the New Mexico film set. The projectile struck and killed Hutchins, while also injuring director Joel Souza.
The civil lawsuit represents continued legal fallout from the on-set incident that shocked Hollywood and raised serious questions about firearms safety protocols in the film industry. Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger, though forensic analysis has disputed this claim.
The judge’s decision means Baldwin will face a jury to determine potential civil liability for the crew member’s claims. This civil case proceeds separately from previous criminal proceedings related to the shooting.
The incident sparked widespread debate about responsibility and safety standards on film productions, particularly regarding the use of functional firearms. Industry professionals have called for stricter protocols and increased oversight to prevent similar tragedies.
Baldwin’s legal team has not yet issued a public statement regarding the judge’s ruling. The trial date has not been announced.

I just can’t fathom that the slum liver didn’t pull the trigger, there is no way a gun will shoot on its own. I guess the moron is trying to project that she said bad things about the gun and it got revenge on its own. I think the fool was showing the crew his cowboy routine to impress the guys. He certainly did his jobb very well. I just wonder why this smooth brained waste of flesh is still out walking the streets while this girl is now being eaten by worms. I hope he gets the death penalty with out all the years between sentence and execution. Dont need to keep feeding him for the next twenty years. Once pronounced guilty remove him out the back door to the platform, rope around the neck, picture of the girl he killed and pull the lever. Just another scum bag far as I can see.
