In a surprising twist of events, President-elect Donald Trump has proposed a new candidate for the Canadian prime ministership: NHL legend Wayne Gretzky. This suggestion was made public through a post on Trump’s favored social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump expressed his admiration for Gretzky, known widely as “The Great One” in the world of hockey, and humorously urged him to consider a political career north of the border.

“I just left Wayne Gretzky, ‘The Great One as he is known in Ice Hockey circles. I said, ‘Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada – You would win easily, you wouldn’t even have to campaign,’” Trump wrote.

However, Gretzky reportedly showed no interest in pursuing such a role. Despite this, Trump encouraged Canadians to initiate a “DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement,” suggesting it would be entertaining to witness.

This light-hearted suggestion comes at a time when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is under significant pressure. Trudeau’s political stability has been challenged following the resignation of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, alongside calls from opposition leader Jagmeet Singh for Trudeau to step down.

Trump didn’t shy away from commenting on Freeland’s resignation either. He posted, “The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau.”

He further criticized her conduct, stating, “Her behavior was totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of Canada. She will not be missed!!!”

Adding to the intrigue, Gretzky was recently spotted at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence sporting a “Make America Great Again” cap, fueling speculation about their meeting and discussions.

While Gretzky may not be entering the political arena, Trump’s playful endorsement has certainly added an interesting twist to the ongoing political drama in Canada.
