- Former adult film star Lisa Ann confirmed the condition is “very common on set” and detailed industry protocols for inspecting talent for the highly contagious fungal infection
- Glanville has experienced ongoing health issues since 2023, previously spending over $70,000 searching for answers before discovering ruptured breast implants were causing facial disfigurement
Brandi Glanville is speaking out about a disturbing health concern she believes stems from a past relationship. The former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star revealed she suspects she contracted a sexually transmitted ringworm infection in her throat.
The 53-year-old reality television personality shared her medical concerns during an episode of her “Brandi Glanville Unfiltered” podcast with guest Lisa Ann, a former adult film star. Glanville believes she contracted the infection while dating someone who worked in the adult entertainment industry.
Lisa Ann confirmed that the condition is widespread within the industry and that proper diagnosis often eludes those unfamiliar with the signs.
“We had to train our makeup artists that when a new member of talent would show up, they would have to get naked in a window where there’s good light, and they would inspect their body to see if they see any patches because it’s incredibly contagious,” Ann said.
According to the Mayo Clinic, ringworm is a common, highly contagious fungal infection that can affect the skin, hair, or nails. Despite its misleading name, the infection is not caused by a worm but by a fungus.
Glanville initially thought she had caught a throat infection until a friend informed her about the sexually transmitted form of ringworm.
“I knew nothing about it, and we’re battling this weird thing,” Glanville said before noting that she had undergone numerous tests that yielded inconclusive results.
“You see them when it’s on the outside of your skin, but they can burrow in like if it’s in your throat, they can burrow deep into your ears and all that.”
She explained that her former partner “did a lot of wrestling,” which could have been where he initially picked up the infection before transmitting it to her.
“I think it’s staph and ringworm, both, because … I don’t know,” she confessed.
This latest health revelation adds to a series of medical challenges Glanville has faced in recent years. In 2023, she believed she had picked up a parasite after visiting Morocco, experiencing facial paralysis that was initially diagnosed as stress-induced angioedema.
Following that diagnosis, she suspected she had contracted a parasite in Morocco and reported she could feel it moving within her face.
Glanville previously stated that while no medical professional had definitively identified what was causing her facial disfigurement, doctors suggested “that it could be a parasite, but they’re not sure.”
Angioedema is a reaction similar to hives that affects deeper layers of the skin, according to the Mayo Clinic. It can appear with hives or independently. However, Glanville’s symptoms persisted and worsened, leading her to continue seeking answers.
In February, the reality star finally discovered that her 20-year-old ruptured breast implants were actually responsible for her medical issues and facial disfigurement. Prior to this revelation, Glanville had spent more than $70,000 attempting to find an answer to the medical mystery that consumed her daily life.
