The wait is almost over for Yellowstone fans hungry for more Dutton family drama. Paramount+ dropped the latest trailer for “Dutton Ranch” on Thursday, giving viewers their first real look at Beth and Rip’s new life in Texas — and the dangerous complications that follow them.
Set to premiere May 15, the spinoff picks up where Yellowstone’s fifth season left off. Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) have left Montana behind after the death of patriarch John Dutton III (Kevin Costner), attempting to build a fresh start far from the ghosts of their past.
The emotional trailer opens with Beth confessing to Rip:
“I miss him.”
Rip responds as the camera focuses on a cowboy hat and photo of a younger John Dutton:
“We brought the best part of your father with us.”
But Texas proves to be anything but peaceful. The couple faces off against a powerful rival ranch led by Beulah Jackson, played by Annette Bening, who warns:
“Rio Paloma is a bit more complicated.”
Ed Harris joins the cast as veterinarian Everett McKinney, shown both smiling in one scene and wielding a rifle in another. The trailer escalates quickly with violent bar fights, explosions, and what appears to be a body being thrown off a cliff — suggesting the Duttons’ Texas “train station” may be just as brutal as the Wyoming original.
Finn Little returns as Carter, Beth and Rip’s adopted son, who seems ready to embrace the family’s dangerous lifestyle. As Beth loads a shotgun and tells him to prepare for “the hard parts,” Carter simply replies:
“Sounds like fun.”
Texas ranch foreman Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) adds to the tension:
“No one understands what we done to protect this ranch.”
Beth closes the trailer with a warning that sets the tone for the entire series:
“A legacy is a beautiful thing but only if it survives.”
The response from fans was immediate and overwhelming. Social media lit up with excited reactions minutes after the trailer dropped.
“I do not have the words to properly express just how excited I am for this series,” one Instagram user wrote. Another declared, “This is going to be epic.”
“Could not be more excited,” one fan commented, while another chimed in, “I am way too ready for this!”
“So excited this is going to be the best show I’ve ever watched in my entire life!!!!!” one social media user gushed. Another added, “I am SO pumped for this.”
One fan referenced the infamous “train station” disposal site from the original series:
“Did they find a new train station? Let’s GO!!!”
The return of television’s favorite tough-as-nails couple sparked particular enthusiasm. “The best couple in history is back again,” one Instagram user commented. Another wrote, “Ohhh i’m abt to pass out, i’m so excited to have them back on my screen !!!!! my parents are back!”
The official synopsis promises high stakes and moral complexity: “As Beth and Rip fight to build a future together – far from the ghosts of Yellowstone – they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire.”
“In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul,” the description continues.
The ensemble cast also includes Juan Pablo Raba, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca and Natalie Alyn Lind.
In a January interview with The Sunday Times, Kelly Reilly offered insight into Beth’s evolution in the new series:
“This is a different era – I had hit my quota of the younger Beth. But there is a lot of why the audience fell in love with her. Beth was unrelenting, dangerous and could easily have been written as a man — people were very critical at the start.”
Reilly addressed criticism that Beth faced for defying conventional expectations of female characters:
“She is unapologetic, out there, flawed, damaged and brave. Women are always asked to play strong role model types, while men can play the gnarliest characters and get away with it. That was very freeing.”
“Dutton Ranch” will premiere globally on Paramount+ on May 15 at 8pm ET/PT with two episodes. The nine-episode first season will then release weekly, giving fans a full summer of Dutton family drama in its new Texas setting.
