  • Despite the continuing increase of coronavirus cases across the United States, President Donald Trump still believes that the coronavirus will “just disappear” at some point.
  • The president added that a vaccine will also be available very soon.
  • Meanwhile, the reopening of several states in the past few weeks seems to have led to a rapidly increasing number of U.S. coronavirus cases.

President Donald Trump still believes that the coronavirus will “just disappear” despite the continuing increase of cases across the United States.

In an interview with Fox Business Network on Wednesday, the president stated: “I think we’re going to be very good with the coronavirus. I think that at some point that’s going to sort of just disappear, I hope.”

Trump had previously stated this belief earlier in the year when the pandemic first hit the U.S. When asked if he “still” stood by this belief that the virus would “disappear” at some point, Trump said, “I do.”

“I think we’re going to have a vaccine very soon too,” Trump added.

Meanwhile, the number of U.S. coronavirus cases has been increasing in the past few weeks following the reopening of several states.

This rising pattern could still continue, warned Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert and member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

Fauci warned on Tuesday, “We are now having [40,000+] new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around. Clearly we are not in total control.”

Fauci expressed his concerns about the recent increase in cases, “particularly in the four states that are accounting for about 50 percent of the new infections.”

The four states in question — Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas — have since shut down bars and other service industry businesses amid the surge in cases.

California had previously appeared to have a handle on the infection rate. Now they are planning to roll back plans of reopening parts of their economy. They announced on Wednesday that bars and indoor dining will be closed again ahead of the Fourth of July weekend.

New York’s plans to reopen indoor dining was also indefinitely postponed since Wednesday.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany defended Trump’s comments later on Wednesday, saying, “The president is confident that it will disappear. He’s put together a revolutionary first-class team that is going to break through bureaucracy and get us a vaccine.”

The coronavirus has caused 126,000 deaths in the United States.
